Survey: Writing Center tutors/consultants who identify as Black, African-American, or Caribbean-American

Dear Colleagues,

One of the undergraduate writing tutors at the University of Delaware Writing Center, Patience, is conducting IRB-approved interview-based research about the experiences of Writing Center tutors/consultants who identify as Black, African-American, or Caribbean-American. She and I would be grateful if you would share her invitation below with your tutoring staff. Patience will be presenting her research at MAWCA at the end of March.

Dear Writing Tutors,

My name is Patience Adodoadji, a Black undergraduate writing tutor at the University of Delaware Writing Center. I am writing to ask if you would be willing to participate in a research study about the experiences Black tutors have had in the writing center. If you are over 18 years of age, identify as Black/African American/Caribbean American, and are an undergraduate student, you are eligible to participate in this study. Participation will involve a zoom interview that should take around 20 minutes to complete. You are free to choose whether or not to participate. There is no penalty for not participating, but your participation will help us make writing centers more equitable spaces for both the staff members who work there and the clients being served.

Attached is an informed consent statement that describes what your rights are as a potential participant and how I will protect your safety and privacy. I ask that you read the informed consent statement, then if you want to participate, email me directly at patado.

If you have questions for us about the study, you can reach me at patado. You can also reach my faculty advisor, Dr. Jennifer Follett, at jfollett.

Thank you for your time,
Patience Adodoadji
