Hello, writing center colleagues. As you may know, I have been hosting a series of virtual brown bag meetings for late career and retired writing center directors and professionals. Anyone is welcome to join!
Our upcoming virtual brown bag for Friday, April 10, 12 p.m. – 1 p.m. EST will feature a special topic. Kathy Cain and Pam Childers will talk to us about the work they, along with Leigh Ryan, have done with surveying and studying former writing center directors. Please see a description from them below:
Pam Childers, Leigh Ryan, and Kathy Cain embarked on what was supposed to be a one-year project surveying former writing center directors to get a sense of how their wc experiences have informed their life and work after leaving the center. Eight years, multiple conference presentations, one SIG, and several book chapters later, as well as the devastating loss of friend/colleague Leigh, the project appears to be nearing its conclusion. Pam and Kathy will talk briefly about the origins of the project, what it revealed about people’s lives after the writing center, and the development and continuation of the IWCA Special Interest Group for Past, Present, and Future Writing Center Directors.
