New: New Listserv + Elections for the Writing Assessment SIG

Dear colleagues,

Are you looking for an opportunity to get involved in field-wide discussions of writing assessment? The Writing Assessment SIG is launching two new initiatives aimed at providing both off and online ways to engage with others interested in writing assessment.

New Listserv

We have just launched a new Google Group listserv designed to create a space for teachers, scholars, WPAs, and other practitioners of writing instruction to discuss issues related to writing assessment. A non-exhaustive list of topics might include classroom assessment, grading and alternative assessment, writing placement, programmatic assessment, and many more. Appropriate posts might include assessment-related announcements and CFPs as well as less formal questions, discussion topics, or calls for advice.

If you’re interested in joining the listserv, you can request do so here (we’re using the request function for now to minimize the chance of spam): https://groups.google.com/g/writingassessment_list

Officer Elections

Additionally, the Writing Assessment SIG is holding an election for the following three positions, to assume responsibilities July 1, 2026:

  1. Chair
  2. Associate Chair
  3. At-Large Member

Find my more information about each position here: Writing Assessment SIG Position Descriptions

We welcome your nominations and/or self-nominations by April 24, 2026. Please submit all of your information in the following Google Form: https://forms.gle/G6aXR7SdYf4YusQq9

The election will take place between May 1 – May 15, 2026, so please keep your eye out for the ballot. Those elected into positions will work with the current co-chairs to coordinate the leadership transition as well as the management of submitted proposals for 4Cs 2027.

Any question about the SIG, the nominations, or the election in general can be directed to Stacy Wittstock (stacy.wittstock) and Jennifer Burke Reifman (jburkereifman).

Looking forward to hearing from you!
