Job: Associate Director of Learning and Tutoring Services for Writing Support at CSUSM

Hi folks!

I’ll be moving soon, so my department is looking for a new Writing Center Director at California State University San Marcos. The position is titled Associate Director of Learning and Tutoring Services (LTS) for Writing Support, and the person in this role would collaborate with the Associate Director of STEM Support and the Director of LTS. LTS is one of the main academic support hubs on campus, housing the Writing Center, STEM tutoring, and Supplemental Instruction. As a whole, LTS has approximately 120 student tutors and SI leaders, with around 20 of those being in the Writing Center.

CSUSM is located in San Diego County, California, and is a Hispanic Serving Institution. We have a large First-Generation population, as well as one of the highest percentages of military-connected students in the CSU system. As part of the Office of Undergraduate Studies, LTS collaborates closely with First Year and University programs, which house a freshman seminar taken by approximately 80% of first semester students and an academic recovery program for students on academic notice (formerly called academic probation), and the first year composition courses.

As I was helping my colleagues continue to grow our online tutoring support—both synchronous and asynchronous—across the unit, we’d really like to get someone in this position who has experience with teaching or providing online tutoring support. This is a full-time staff position with no teaching duties, but you would be able to teach 1 class on the campus as an overload if you were interested; I have taught in First Year and University Programs every semester of working here. We’re also hoping to move quickly on this so that I can assist with the transition in early January, so please apply by Nov. 22 if interested.

Application information can be found on the campus hiring page, CSUSM External Careers Site:

I have greatly enjoyed working with this young but passionate team over the last four and a half years. If my spouse had not found a job in another state, I would not be leaving this excellent team! I am happy to answer any questions as well.
