CFP: 2024 SCWCA Conference

Good morning,

We hope this email finds you well. On behalf of the conference organizers and the SCWCA, we would like to invite you again to submit a proposal for the 2024 South Central Writing Centers Association (SCWCA) Conference before the proposal deadline of December 15th. The conference provides an excellent platform for scholars, faculty, staff, and students to engage in meaningful discussions, share insights, and contribute to the advancement of writing center practices. Details regarding the conference theme and other relevant details can be found in the link above.

Conference Details:

  1. Date: Feb 9th – March 2nd
  2. Location: University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, Arkansas
  3. Submission Deadline: December 15th

Tutor of the Year:

If you want to recognize one of your excellent tutors, please consider nominating them for our Tutor of the Year Award. Criteria for the award can be found here and you can submit your recommendation via this Google Form.

Scholarship Policy:

We know that conference-going can create financial hardships, which is why the conference offers funds each year for interested parties. Details on our scholarship policies, what is covered, and the application process can be found on our website.

Volunteer/Leadership Opportunities:

The SCWCA is seeking applicants for [positions]. If you have questions about these positions and their various responsibilities, please [visit our website, contact someone, etc.].

Last but definitely not least, we will have two open board positions after the conference, Vice President and Texas State Representative. We are taking nominations, including self-nominations, up until the conference and will vote to elect these board members during the business meeting at the conference. Below are the position descriptions and term limits. If you would like to nominate someone (or yourself!) or have any questions, please email SCWCA President, Carey Smitherman Clark at cclark.

The Vice President will

a. Work closely with the President, assuming the duties of the President in the President’s absence, and undertake responsibilities delegated by the President.

b. Become President at the end of the former President’s term subject to a ratifying vote of the majority of members present at the annual business meeting.

c. Chair the Outstanding Tutor of the Year selection committee.

d. Update, as needed, the information about the duties of the office on the SCWCA web site by providing the web site coordinator with additions or changes.

e. Train the incoming Vice-President in order to provide continuity in the duties of the office.

The State Representatives will

a. Represent the interests of writing centers in their respective states at Executive Board and General Business meetings of the Association.

b. Serve on the Conference Scholarship selection committee.

c. Provide, when requested, information to schools in their respective states that are developing writing centers and to writing center administrators seeking assistance in developing a center or improving an existing one.

d. Update, as needed, the information about the duties of the office on the SCWCA web site by providing the web site coordinator with additions or changes.

e. Train the incoming Representatives in order to provide continuity in the duties of the office.
