Job: New Mexico Tech — Assistant Professor of Technical Communication

I’m happy to announce an opening for an Assistant Professor of Technical Communication at the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology (New Mexico Tech) to start August 2025.

The teaching load is 3-3. Candidates will be called upon to teach visual communication, web design, social media and other digital media classes in support of the Technical Communication Bachelor of Science program and the interdisciplinary Master’s in Public Engagement in Science, Design and Communication. An ability to teach Technical Writing within the general education program is valued. A candidate may cover other departmental offerings depending on the candidate’s secondary interests. Scholarly areas may include technical and scientific communication, visual and digital rhetoric, web design, information design, user experience and/or user interface design (UX/UI) or other media interests. Applicants should have a PhD in Technical Communication, Rhetoric and Composition, Digital Media or a closely related field by starting date.

The successful candidate will have a strong interest in teaching visual communication and web design at a STEM institution; significant potential for successful research, publication, and other scholarly/professional activities; commitment and/or experience to service and administrative tasks such as advising, curriculum development and program assessment. Experience or interest in working with multilingual students is desired. The committee will be interested in candidates’ views on diversity issues, and their experience relevant to teaching communication to students from a broad range of cultural backgrounds.
