Event: NCPTW 2023: reminders, updates, registration rates

Dear writing center colleagues,

Planning for NCPTW’s 2023 conference in Pittsburgh is in full swing, and we are excited about what promises to be a fantastic event! We write with some reminders, updates, and news about registration rates. Please forward this message to any members of your panel or group not on WCENTER.

Participation confirmation

This is a reminder that August 1, 2023 is the deadline for presenters to confirm their participation by completing this online form. Only one member of a panel or group needs to complete the form, if the information is the same for everyone (e.g., everyone is accepting and has the same technology needs). Just be sure to include all presenters names. If one or more of the original proposers will no longer be attending or has different technology needs, they should complete their own form to indicate that.

If you proposed to present a poster, you should have received an email from us about revising to a different format. If you did not or did not yet confirm that you can do so, please let us know.

Registration rates

Due to unforeseen escalation in costs for the conference, particularly for technology and AV, the NCPTW Board has determined that we will need to raise registration rates slightly for the conference so that the conference does not result in a financial loss for the organization. (As a nonprofit, NCPTW does not make money from the conference but uses registration fees to cover conference costs.) Registration rates have remained relatively stable over the last several years because we endeavor to keep the conference affordable for students and professionals. But with higher costs an increase is now necessary. We regret and apologize for this change but hope you understand its necessity in our changing world.

Thus, starting Monday, July 24 at 8 a.m. Eastern registration rates will increase to

  • Student: $115 (was $100)
  • Professional: $200 (was $175)
  • Online only (with unlimited seats for your writing center): $150 (was $125)

*If you would like to get the current rates, please register before Monday, July 24 at 8 a.m. Eastern. If you already registered, you do not need to pay the increased rates.*

These new rates are considered the “early bird” rates, and registration fees will increase again by $25 at midnight Eastern September 16, 2023.

Lodging

NCPTW 2023 has secured a block of rooms at the Sheraton Pittsburgh Hotel at Station Square, the hotel where all events will be held, which is conveniently located within walking distance of restaurants, shops, and attractions at Station Square. The Duquesne Incline, which provides breathtaking views of the city of Pittsburgh, is just steps away. Conference attendees can reserve rooms at the conference rate of $155 per night by calling Marriott reservations at 1-800-325-3535 before October 9, 2023.

Online only attendance and presenting

If you are planning to present and/or attend virtually, please stay tuned for details about how that will work. We will have more information later this summer/early fall.

With gratitude for your support and understanding, we look forward to seeing you in November,

Jim and Renee
