Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Writing Studies
The Writing Program at FIU invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Writing Studies to begin August 13, 2025. We welcome applications from candidates with any specialization in Writing, Rhetoric, and Composition Studies, including but not limited to professional, community, medical, science, digital, and environmental writing.

The English department seeks to recruit and support faculty members that reflect the diversity of FIU, a federally recognized Hispanic-Serving Institution with a majority Latinx student population. Applicants from groups underrepresented in the academy are strongly encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach in both the undergraduate (BA) and graduate (MA) programs in Writing and Rhetoric. The typical full-time (9-month) teaching load is 2/2.
  • Maintain a productive research record in writing and rhetoric.
  • Contribute service to the Writing and Rhetoric Program, English Department, and broader university and South Florida communities in the forms of student mentoring, curriculum development, community engagement, and/or collective governance.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Writing Studies, Technical and Professional Communication, or a closely related field.
  • A visible research agenda and potential for publication in the field of writing and rhetoric.
  • Evidence of successful college-level teaching in writing and rhetoric.
  • A publication record appropriate for the given rank

The Writing Program offers a BA track and MA track in Writing and Rhetoric along with a successful certificate in Professional and Public writing. Our curriculum includes a range of upper-division and graduate professional, technical, and community writing courses as well as a strong first-year writing sequence. As teachers, we are heavily invested in our community, with our students frequently participating in project-based learning alongside local and international community partners.
