Apply: MLA Summer Reading and Writing Institute in Milwaukee

Hello friends and colleagues,

I am excited to announce that the application cycle is now open for the 2025 MLA Institutes on Reading and Writing Pedagogy at Access-Oriented Institutions (AOIs). This summer, Madison College and University of Wisconsin Milwaukee are partnering to host an institute on JUNE 15 – 20, 2025. Shevaun Watson at UWM and I will be leading workshops on AI Literacies, and we’re thrilled to have Brett Griffiths and Cassie Philips among our guest speakers. Please see the attached flyer for more details.

These institutes, funded by the Mellon Foundation, provide new and future faculty members with intensive training in pedagogical theory and practices for the teaching of writing and reading together to improve instruction at AOIs and to nurture the study of the humanities in diverse educational settings. Upon completion of the institute, participants will be eligible to receive the MLA Certificate in Reading-Writing Pedagogy at Access-Oriented Institutions.

Graduate students in English and related fields and full-time or part-time faculty members at access-oriented institutions like community colleges are invited to apply. We hope you will share news of this summer professional development opportunity to members of your department and campus community.

The deadline for applications is 31 March 2025.
