"The Ethics of Pace" with Moya Bailey
March 14, 2-3:30pm

This session is an opportunity for in-depth discussion with Dr. Moya Bailey, professor at Northwestern University, interdisciplinary scholar, and author of several key texts in Digital Humanities, including the book Misogynoir Transformed: Black Women’s Digital Resistance (NYU Press, 2021). More specifically, this session will focus on Bailey’s 2021 article "The Ethics of Pace," which utilizes a Disability Studies framework to critique societal emphasis on rapid pace and productivity. Using her experience in the academy as a case study, Bailey "addresses the unique challenges of creating an ethical pace of life for those multiply marginalized by race, gender, sexuality, and ability." Questions in this session may explore methodology, resistance to/perpetuation of academic hierarchy, and fostering collaboration amongst students, subjects and colleagues.
