New: Peer Tutoring as a High-Impact Practice (HIP) for Tutors

Good afternoon, all.

For those interested in the discussion on peer tutoring as a high-impact practice (HIP) for learning, our writing center’s research team just published a study that really speaks to the impact of tutoring on the tutors themselves. The field of writing centers has a rich history of this knowledge in our Peer Writing Tutor Alumni Research Project, but we are hoping our research extends the conversation using the HIP framework. This conversation about the value of human, peer tutoring seems especially vital with the changing landscape of education, including pressing budget cuts and conversations about AI tutoring.

On a personal note, we are especially excited that this study involved one of our amazing undergraduate peer tutors as a researcher.

JCRL published the study, and the whole issue is related to peer tutoring. Here’s the link: https://doi.org/10.1080/10790195.2025.2489338
