Survey: Barriers facing trans* faculty, students, and staff

Dear all,

I’m part of a research team trying to understand and address the barriers facing trans* faculty, students, and staff at this particular moment using an anonymous survey. If you could please participate and/or circulate to your networks, my colleagues and I would be grateful.

We know it’s unimaginably difficult to navigate the onslaught of oppression — and a number of the trans faculty working on this project are doing so anonymously to protect their own identities (hence why I — a ciswoman — am doing this communication). So, I just wanted to be sure to say that we commit to taking great care with this anonymous data and are happy to answer any questions you might have.

Full recruitment email is below; the survey link can be found here.

In solidarity,
Kristen

*Not all gender nonconforming people identify with the trans label, but for legibility in this research we use the term “transgender” as an umbrella term that includes all non-cisgender and nonbinary identities, including self-identified gender nonconforming and gender expansive people.

Hello,
We are seeking transgender graduate or professional students, staff, and faculty at colleges and universities in the U.S. to complete this survey.
This is a US-wide survey is a research project on the experiences of trans individuals in higher education. This survey is completely anonymous and is not collecting any identifying information. We have also limited our demographic questions so that respondents can provide only as much information as they feel safe including. If you choose to end the survey before submitting, your responses will be deleted. We are gathering this data for two reasons:
(1) We want to identify the current needs/climate for trans faculty and staff in higher education in order to identify the areas of greatest need for intervention.
(2) We want to document this moment in history, so that it will not be erased.
We expect that this research survey will take between 6 and 9 minutes (less than 10 minutes) to complete. You will be asked to answer as many as 37 questions.
