I’m writing to announce that the English Department at Georgia College and State University is inviting applications for two full-time non-tenure track Lecturers in Writing Studies with demonstrated commitment to the effective teaching of first-year writing courses in the liberal arts tradition to begin in August 2026.

These lecturers will primarily teach sections of ENGL 1101 (introduction to academic writing) and ENGL 1102 (introduction to research writing). They will join an active team of faculty committed to developing a strong First-Year Writing Program and culture of writing across the university. These are renewable contract positions and include a path for promotion to Senior Lecturer. Candidates are required to have a terminal degree (PhD, EdD, MFA) in Writing Studies, Rhetoric and Composition, Creative Writing, English, or other closely related field by the time of employment.

The English Department offers a rigorous curriculum in four degree programs: a B.A. in English with concentrations in literature, creative writing, and film, media, and culture; a minor in English; an M.A. in English; and an M.F.A. in Creative Writing. Each program is designed to empower students to develop their passion for literature and written expression into skills that last a lifetime in any career and in every walk of life. The department also includes an active First-Year Writing Program and Graduate Teaching Assistant Program and manages several publications, including The Peacock’s Feet, Peach (formerly Arts & Letters), and The Flannery O’Connor Review. Affiliated with the Flannery O’Connor Institute for the Humanities, the department collaborates to host lectures, conferences, and an NEH Summer Institute on Flannery O’Connor.
