GradSchool: University of Kansas Sneak Peek event for prospective grad students

Dear colleagues,

The English Department at the University of Kansas is holding a virtual sneak peek event for prospective grad students on Friday, November 21st. Our rhetoric & composition faculty have expertise in a range of areas including rhetorical genre studies, public rhetoric, writing knowledge transfer, audience theory, critical ethnography, critical race studies, Third World and women of color feminisms, queer of color critique, cultural rhetorics, professional & technical writing, disability studies, community literacy, digital media studies, corpus linguistics, sociolinguistics, text mining, and response to student writing. Our graduates have historically done very well on the academic market and have gone on to fulfilling careers in academic teaching and research, higher ed administration, technical writing and editing, and more.

We’d love to talk to any students you think would be interested in our program. For context, our sneak peek event was historically aimed at students from marginalized backgrounds and identities. Due to legislative changes in Kansas, the event is now open to students from all backgrounds and identities.

The English Department at the University of Kansas invites students considering graduate school in English to a virtual preview of our graduate programs in literature, creative writing, and rhetoric and composition. Our graduate students have gone on to become university professors, published and best-selling novelists and memoirists, and much more! Located in Eastern Kansas, about 50 minutes from Kansas City, Missouri, the University of Kansas is based in Lawrence, a vibrant college town with a literary and music scene. The English Department prides itself on creating a welcoming climate in which our students feel they belong and can flourish; we strive to support all our graduate students, who are fully funded–from MA and MFA to PhD. Further, our department is highly ranked among all graduate programs in English at public universities.

Please fill out this form to apply to attend the KU English Department’s Virtual "Sneak Peek" event on Friday, November 21st in the afternoon. Events will include an informal faculty panel discussing research and teaching, a workshop on how to apply to graduate school, and an optional Q&A with current graduate students in the department. As part of the larger sneak peek activities, individual virtual meetings can be scheduled with faculty members with whom you might be interested in working.

Registration Deadline: November 15.
