Apply: CLJ Issues in Community Writing Editorial Collective

Call for Applications: Community Literacy Journal, Issues in Community Writing Editorial Collective

Issues in Community Literacy, a subsection ofCommunity Literacy Journal, invites applications to join our new editorial collective. We seek community-engaged scholars, teachers, and practitioners committed to advancing conversations about community-based writing, public rhetoric, and participatory research and practice.

The Issues in Community Literacy section publishes once yearly in the spring. This section encourages submissions from community-based practitioners, nonprofit staff, and folks publishing in an academic journal for the first time. Pieces selected for publication analyze, reflect upon, or complicate the ongoing work of community literacy. Pieces may also raise issues about or offer responses to previous volumes of CLJ.

Guided by the Community Literacy Journals commitment to inclusive, community-responsive scholarship, members of the collective collaborate on promoting the journal and reviewing submissions. Involvement in the collective is an opportunity to contribute to a growing network of writers and researchers working at the intersections of activism, pedagogy, and public engagement.

To apply, please send:

  • A current CV

  • A 100-word blurb describing your interest in community literacy/writing and your motivation for joining the collective

Please email materials to mlafran2 by December 1st with the subject line “Editorial Collective Application.”

We welcome applicants from a range of professional and community contexts, including graduate students, independent scholars, and community partners whose work engages writing as a tool for social connection and change.
