Survey: Embodied experiences in technical and professional writing

Dear colleagues,

My name is Kristin Bennett, and I’m an Assistant Professor of Technical and Scientific Writing at the University of Oklahoma. I am inviting you to participate in an IRB-approved study that asks participants to share experiences working in technical and professional communication. If you are a researcher, teacher, and/or industry professional in technical and professional communication (TPC), I invite you to participate by completing a brief survey.
This project traces the tactical ways in which individuals navigate technical and professional communication across contexts (industry, pedagogical, programmatic, and/or academic) based on their uniquely embodied identities, knowledge, and research. This study examines how TPC discourse, documentation, and design can draw from, contribute to, and potentially challenge exclusive workplace practices. By centering the embodied experiences from a range of identities, this project emphasizes the need to amplify the perspectives of those most frequently marginalized in order to promote more accessible and just workplace contexts.
To qualify for this study, you must be at least 18 years of age and be working (or have previously worked) in a technical and professional communication-specific context (academia, industry, research, education, etc.). This study is voluntary, and your participation will be anonymous. You are welcome to leave the study at any time.
If you are interested in participating in this study, please complete the linked consent form and survey. Once you have completed the consent form, you will be directly linked to the survey. If you indicate consent for a future interview, you may be contacted for a follow-up Zoom interview which will take place between February-April 2026 and scheduled based on mutual availability.

If you have any questions regarding the study, please do not hesitate to email me at kristin.bennett. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Kristin Bennett
