Annual Convention: Convention dates: April 14–17, 2027, Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Call for Proposals (CFP): Graduate Student Perspectives on the Future of Teaching Writing in the Age of Gen AI
The rapid emergence of Generative Artificial Intelligence (Gen AI) is reshaping the landscape of teaching writing, rhetoric, and composition. As these technologies enter writing classrooms, they potentially influence how writing is practiced, taught, and assessed, raising some pertinent questions about authorship, creativity, ethics, labor, and the future of human meaning-making in teaching writing contexts.
CCCC Graduate Student Standing Group invites proposals from graduate students who critically and imaginatively engage with the theme “Graduate Students’ Perspectives on the Future of Teaching Writing in the Age of Gen AI.” We especially encourage graduate students to reflect on both the challenges and opportunities posed by Gen AI in writing classrooms and programs.
Possible areas of inquiry include, but are not limited to:

  • The pedagogical challenges of integrating Gen AI into writing instruction
  • Opportunities for reimagining writing practices, feedback, and assessment
  • The implications of Gen AI for authorship, originality, and plagiarism
  • The potential erosion or transformation of human values in writing
  • Critical AI literacy and ethical frameworks for teaching writing
  • Labor, agency, and the role of the writing teacher in AI-mediated environments
  • Linguistic justice, equity, and global perspectives on AI and writing
  • Rhetorical, cultural, or ideological analyses of AI in education

In alignment with the 2027 CCCC convention theme "Design Writing Futures" we particularly invite proposals that envision future trajectories of writing and writing instruction with reference to Gen AI, engaging speculative and critical frameworks such as:

  • Preferable futures (what you propose to be or what should be and how)
  • Preposterous futures (disruptive, or unimaginable possibilities)
  • Plausible futures (grounded but innovative directions)
  • Possible futures (emerging trends and transformations)
  • Probable futures (likely outcomes based on current trajectories)

Participants are encouraged to propose some kind of theoretical, pedagogical, or methodological frameworks from any perspective or disciplinary angle.
