Our English M.A. Program currently has several funded graduate assistantship lines available. These lines are either teaching assistantships in composition or graduate assistantships in the Writing Center. I would be happy to speak to any of your recent graduates from your English or related bachelor programs about this opportunity before our application deadline on 7/15/26. Youngstown, Ohio, is about an hour from Pittsburgh or Cleveland. This Northeast Ohio region is affordable, and our campus has added a number of apartment buildings for student housing within the last few years. Thank you for your assistance.

YSU offers a full M.A. in English, and most full-time students serve as graduate assistants in the composition classroom or writing center to fund their degree. Students take graduate classes in literature, professional writing, grant writing, writing with data, film studies, linguistics, creative writing, and others.
· Our small graduate classes and close mentoring enable students to develop strong relationships with peers and faculty, participate in publishing and presenting their work on campus and at national conferences, and enjoy experiential learning through community-engaged courses and internships.
· Our graduates go on to work in writing, publishing, education, government, business, and further graduate study. In the last decade, we have placed students into Ph.D. programs at the University of Pittsburgh, Kent State University, Columbia, Vanderbilt, University of Cincinnati, University of Texas at Arlington, and others.
