Job: FT Lecturer Positions | University of Michigan | Technical Communication

The Program in Technical Communication at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, is hiring multiple full-time Lecturer I positions to begin Winter 2024.

Our department teaches technical communication courses for engineering students. TC faculty integrate written, oral, and visual communication into engineering courses, with a special focus on teamwork, ethics, and social impact. We regularly team-teach courses with other technical communication faculty as well as technical engineering faculty.

The Program in Technical Communication is housed within Michigan Engineering and employs 34 full-time faculty. We have a vibrant, supportive workplace culture and a passion for creating outstanding learning experiences for our students. We are also exceptionally dedicated to our faculty’s professional development and well being, and we purposefully invest in creating an equitable, collaborative, and supportive department culture.

As a Lecturer I, you would teach sections of both standalone and team-taught technical communication courses, with an initial focus on first-year writing in our team-taught Engineering 100 courses; on intermediate technical communication in TCHNCLCM-300 (our standalone course for Computer Science and Computer/Electrical Engineering majors); and on supporting our upper-level courses (as needed).

Lecturer I faculty positions are 100% teaching positions (no service requirement) and are renewed annually. This is a promotion-track position: successful candidates are eligible for annual raises and promotion to Lecturer II, per the terms of the Lecturer’s Employee Organization (LEO) union contract. The University of Michigan offers competitive benefits packages and the LEO union provides substantial support and advocacy for all UM Lecturers. UM also provides professional development funds for LEO Lecturers (up to $1500 per year).

Our job ad provides more details, and I am happy to answer questions. We will begin reviewing applications immediately. For best consideration, please apply by October 1.

Best,
