We are excited announce an in-person ideation symposium for the Mid-Atlantic DMV area on "Organizational Futures of Rhetoric, Composition, and Writing Studies." Please see below for more details and to RSVP. We welcome you to share widely with anyone who identifies geographically with the DMV (or is looking for an ideation symposium to come to and this is the closest one!).
🌸🍂 DMV Ideation Symposium: Organizational Futures of Rhetoric, Composition, and Writing Studies
Kofi Adisa, Angela Glotfelter, Jennifer Maher, J Palmeri, and Matt Pavesich invite you to a fall-flavored, in-person ideation session following the de-chartering of the CCCC organization from NCTE. We warmly invite anyone who lives in or around the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia greater metro area) and who has a connection to Rhetoric, Composition, and Writing Studies (RCWS) and/or CCCC to join this session, which will be held at the University of Maryland, College Park campus on Friday, October 30 from 10:00am to 3:00pm. Lunch will be provided.
Please fill out our free registration form by October 9 (there is no cost to attend) to let us know if you can make it (and also to stay on the list for any future events if you can’t).
This session will focus on ideation and sensemaking around the local needs of RCWS community members in the DMV. As such, activities will invite participants to

Look to the future to explore possibilities and solutions in the wake of CCCC de-chartering

Assess the needs/desires of people at all levels and positions within RCWS for an equitable future

Define together what it means to be a part of RCWS

Continue the work of other ideation sessions

Share ideas with each other in community

Develop next steps for moving forward
We are planning to share facilitator notes from these sessions on the WAC Clearinghouse.
