AWAC Invites events are digital presentations, conversations, workshops, and other kinds of programming that our colleagues in the field of WAC/WID are already hosting at their own home institutions for folks at those institutions. We are excited to share the opportunity to join this workshop hosted through CT State Community College.

How can we help undergraduate students become more confident, capable, and independent readers across disciplines? This interactive virtual workshop invites educators to explore the four dimensions of reading and their own impact on student learning. Participants will learn practical strategies for integrating metacognitive conversations about reading into their courses and modeling the expert reading practices that support student success. Grounded in the role of reading instruction in teaching for social justice, this professional learning opportunity emphasizes how making reading practices visible and explicit can help create more equitable learning experiences for undergraduate students across disciplines.
The workshop combines presentation and hands-on participation, including a Think Aloud metacognitive reading activity that allows faculty to experience firsthand how making reading processes visible can support student learning.
