GradSchool: Info Sessions for Ohio University’s Graduate Program in Rhetoric & Composition

Ohio University’s graduate program is soliciting applications for fall 2027 admission. We offer both MA and PhD degrees in Rhetoric and Composition. We will hold three online information sessions for prospective students over the next two months. Our application deadline is February 1.

Tuesday, October 27 @ 7:00 PM EDT
Wednesday, November 4 @ 8:00 PM EST
Wednesday, December 2 @ 10:00 AM EST

Our graduate program has recently been redesigned, resulting in higher stipends and a great deal more curricular flexibility for our graduate students. We do not require GRE scores or foreign language proficiency and all of our students receive tuition waivers and stipends as Teaching Associates.

Our students teach first-year and a range of advanced composition courses (e.g., Gender, Writing, & Rhetoric; Scientific Writing & Rhetoric) both in-person and online. They also have the opportunity to teach courses in our Writing Certificate and serve as Assistant Director of Composition.

Additional opportunities include:
*conference travel support
*research grants
*English Graduate Student Organization
*multiple on-campus conferences and presentation opportunities
*course design institutes and faculty learning communities from our Center for Teaching, Learning, and Assessment
*certificates available in TESOL, WGSS, Instructional Design, Communications, and more

Our faculty have expertise in writing pedagogy, AI, writing program administration, lifespan writing research, multimodality, online writing instruction, writing centers, second language writing and ESOL, health humanities, and more. Additional information about our programs and faculty is available at https://www.ohio.edu/cas/english/graduate/phd-rhetoric-composition. Our doctoral program has an outstanding placement record with recent PhD graduates receiving tenure-track jobs at Andrews University, Hiram College, and Western Illinois U. Recent MAs have gone on to doctoral programs at U of Louisville, U of Maryland, Michigan State, and Purdue.

Please email me directly at tiller for a Microsoft Teams invite to either meeting. We’d be happy to talk about our program, life in the vibrant college town of Athens, Ohio, and applying to graduate programs.

best,
