Job Description
The English/Writing Studies faculty at Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi invites applications for a 9-month tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of English, with emphasis in Technical and Professional Writing beginning in fall 2024. We seek a colleague with two or more of the following specializations: intercultural technical communication, digital rhetoric, or user experience.
The successful candidate will be a productive scholar in writing studies with a record of publication and/or presentations and will be expected to maintain an active research agenda. As a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI), we are seeking candidates who can help implement programs and curricula responsive to our department’s institutional and regional context.
The standard course load in the College of Liberal Arts is a 4/4 made up of a 3/3 teaching load and a 1/1 release for scholarly/creative activity. Teaching expectations will include a 3/3 course load comprising introductory technical and professional writing courses, service courses, upper-division undergraduate courses in writing studies, and graduate courses in the master’s program. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to develop and teach courses in their specialization and will be expected to participate in appropriate service at the Department, College, and University level.
The Department of English at Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi offers undergraduate English majors a choice in either a Writing or Literary Studies emphasis, curricula for secondary English certification, certificates in Writing for Non-Profits, Social Media, and TESOL, and minors in Technical and Professional Writing, Creative Writing, and Literary Studies. The graduate program provides an interdisciplinary educational experience in a generalist MA in English by requiring advanced study in Writing Studies, Literary Studies, and Applied Linguistics.

Required Qualifications:
- PhD in Technical Communication, Writing Studies, English, or the equivalent with emphasis in intercultural technical communication, digital rhetoric, or user experience. Advanced ABD will be considered; degree must be conferred at the time of appointment.
- Record of active scholarly production or engagement in technical communication and/or writing studies.
- Teaching experience in technical and professional writing.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bilingual/multilingual speaker and writer
- Demonstrated evidence of culturally responsive pedagogy, especially in the context of a regional university designated as a Hispanic-Serving Institution.
- Experience teaching and advising first-generation students and historically underserved communities.
- Demonstrated evidence of an ability to teach in a range of modalities (face to face, asynchronous online, hybrid, synchronous online).
