Dear Rhet/Comp Colleagues,
Would you please let your graduate students know about the University of Houston’s PhD program in English with a concentration in Rhetoric, Composition, and Pedagogy (RCP)? The annual application deadline is February 1, and usually we offer TAships to our top applicants. A flyer with more information is attached.
With five tenure-line rhet/comp faculty members who collaborate frequently with two sociolinguists, we’re a supportive doctoral concentration within a large, active department and university. I am delighted to add that a survey of our current RCP students bears this out. One student writes, “The professors and graduate students of the UH RCP concentration are serious and conscientious scholars. The program is rooted in traditional theory while simultaneously encouraging experimental and forward-looking praxis.” Other students share that the concentration has helped them “develop confidence as a researcher, a writer, and a teacher”; “feel supported and heard”; and grow into “a more competent, compassionate teacher.”
