Event: 2024 Southern Regional Composition Conference

Dear Colleagues:

We are excited to announce that the 2024 Southern Regional Composition Conference, “Gathering Our Voices,” will be held on April 12 at Oklahoma City Community College in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.This year’s keynote speaker is Dr. Kelly Ritter. We’d love for you and your colleagues to join us!

The mission of the Southern Regional Composition Conference is to offer teachers, tutors, administrators, and graduate students of composition, regardless of rank, status, or institutional role, the opportunity to network with one another while sharing theoretical and pedagogical approaches to the teaching and tutoring of first-year writing. We aim to foster an environment of collaboration and learning, and we strive to create and support a strong community of scholars and practitioners in our region through an annual conference.

Open Board Positions

Several of our board positions are also coming up for election this spring. If you have an interest in taking on an active role with the SRCC, please see available position descriptions below:

Vice President (1 position, 3-year term)

The vice president will work closely with the president, assuming the duties of the president in the president’s absence; serve as the primary liaison for conference hosts and SRCC members; assume the responsibilities of president at the end of the former president’s term; and train the incoming vice president in order to provide continuity in the duties of the office.

Secretary (1 position, 3-year term)

The secretary will record or cause to be recorded, minutes of all Executive Board and business meetings, and shall keep an active archive of such minutes; distribute minutes of the previous meeting for approval, and correct the minutes as needed. Additionally, the secretary shall serve as webmaster, developing and maintaining the organization’s website and coordinating any electronic voting.

Two- and Four-Year College Representatives (1 position for each, 3-year terms)

The two college representatives will represent the interests of teachers of composition and rhetoric from their respective college type and provide, when requested, information to schools of their respective types that are seeking resources for teaching or developing new programs.

Graduate Student Representative (1 position, 1-year term)

The graduate student representative will represent the interests of all graduate student and graduate assistant members of SRCC, and provide, when requested, information about the conference and board activity. This person will also work to create and maintain a graduate student community.
