With June officially upon us, AWAC’s Mentoring Committee is excited to announce AWAC Summer Reads!
This reading group will focus on a monograph (instead of an article like our AWAC Reads program during the academic year).
Interested folks can read our selected book over the summer, then join other participants in mid-September on Zoom (exact date/time TBA later in the summer) to discuss the book.
Both AWAC members and non-members are welcome to participate! (Not yet an AWAC member? Click here to learn more.)
What monograph are we reading?
For Summer 2024’s AWAC Summer Reads, we are reading Masking Inequality with Good Intentions: Systemic Bias, Counterspaces, and Discourse Acquisition in STEM Education by Heather Falconer.
This monograph is available as an open-source e-text through WAC Clearinghouse. You can access it here: https://wac.colostate.edu/books/practice/masking/
How do we sign up?
Keep an eye out for another email in late July or early August. This email will have the date and time of our synchronous conversation in September, as well as a link to a form that you can use to register.
Until then, feel free to start reading!
