Good morning!
The robin younglings have flown the nest, the down on the neighborhood ducks is turning the feathers, and the tomato plants are full of small green orbs. It must be TYCA MIDWEST Proposal season in the Midwest. (TL;DR: Submit here. Early Bird Deadline for receiving feedback has been extended to July 1!)
As the host and onsite coordinator of our conference this October 17-19, I enthusiastically invite your reflections, voices, teaching examples, and research on what it means to teach in access-oriented institutions at this moment!
LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION!
This year’s TYCA MW conference will be held in Livonia, a small city halfway between Detroit and Ann Arbor (and easily accessed by Detroit Wayne County International Airport). We celebrate the rich industrial history of Detroit and the water-based ecotourism of Michigan with our conference theme of Hustle and Flow. Dr. Ebony Thomas, author of 2020 breakout hit The Dark Fantastic, examines the relationships between the racial positioning of characters in fantasy literature and their readers.
A LITTLE R & R
This year’s conference also features the opportunity to participate in Art Bus: a trip to Downtown Detroit to see one of the two most highly rated museums in the country: The Detroit Institute of Art and The Wright Museum of African American History (a harbinger and prototype for the D. C. museum).
