Rockford University is hiring a Lecturer in English for the Fall 2024 semester, with applications due in just one week (July 1, 2024). We’re a small school (900 undergrads) in a small city in Northern Illinois (150,000 in Rockford, 350,000 in the metro area) with about a 90-minute drive to Chicago, Milwaukee, or Madison. You’d join me as department chair and Dr. Kristin Ravel as WPA as we work to make our three-course rhetoric sequence better and better every year.

Rockford University invites applications for a full-time, 10-month contract for Lecturer in English starting in Fall 2024. Ph.D., ABD, or M.A. required, preferably in rhetoric and composition, as well as minimum two years’ experience teaching college-level writing at institutions accredited by regionally accrediting associations.
This Lecturer will join a small English department where all members teach first-year writing courses and are dedicated to developing equitable pedagogies. Strong applicants will have a record of commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in their teaching and/or in their community. We are especially interested in candidates who are dedicated to issues of linguistic justice and candidates with experience teaching first-year writing to developing writers.
This Lecturer will teach 15 credit hours (five 3-hour courses) per fall and spring semester, with occasional opportunities for summer teaching if desired. Courses in our three-course rhetoric sequence (serving both first-year and upper-level students) are currently capped at 16, 18, and 18 students, respectively. The selected candidate will have full voting rights, will have access to the same internal research and travel grants as tenure-line faculty, will attend department, college, and faculty meetings, and will participate in programmatic assessment. No research work is expected or required.
This position has the opportunity to be a 3-year renewable appointment, based on satisfactory performance and departmental need.

Ph.D., ABD, or M.A. in rhetoric and composition (or related field) and appropriate level of experience (see description).
