Hello all!
I hope your summer is filled with the kind of restoration and rejuvenation I know we all need after the last few years!
I am writing to encourage folks to submit a proposal for this year’s TYCA Midwest conference, which will be held at Schoolcraft College in Livonia (part of Metro Detroit) from October 17-19. This year’s theme, Hustle and Flow, aims to reflect our unique position in Michigan as a hub for both manufacturing and ecotourism, of environmental advances and eroding infrastructure. We invite you to bring your inquiries and revelations, your frustrations and epiphanies, the culmination of all of the contradictions of your daily teaching life to our community dialogue about what it means to teach English at two-year colleges today.

We have an exciting set of events already in store, including a keynote address by Dr. Ebony Thomas, professor of literacy and writing, social critic, and author of The Dark Fantastic: Race and the Imagination from Harry Potter to the Hunger Games and Restorying Young Adult Literature: Expanding Students’ Perspectives with Digital Texts (Principles in Practice). This year, we are also offering an opportunity for early registrants to ride the art bus to Detroit to visit the Wright Museum of African American History or The Detroit Institute of Art (your choice) for a small additional fee.
