Brittany Cuenin, Director of the Writing Center at Lander University, and I are excited to invite your proposals for and participation at the SWCA-SC Fall 2024 Tutor Retreat, Write Here! Collaborating and Consulting in Writing Centers
Retreat Information
When: Saturday, September 28, 10 AM – 3 PM
Where: Lander University in Greenwood, SC
Call for Presentations/Workshops/Round Tables
We invite individual or group presentations, round tables, or workshops that explore the following themes:
Collaborate
- How can we incorporate all student accessibility into our practices and policies?
- How can Writing Centers collaborate with other departments on campus to promote writing services?
- I’m right, so you write: Navigating authority with student tutors and their peers in appointments
Consult:
- How can we best communicate with faculty? (Tutor summaries, emails, etc.) Can we become consultants for writing assignments? (Round table?)
- How can we guide students as they consult AI for writing assignments?
- How can we offer students help in emotional or stressful consultations?

Send 500-word proposals to Brittany Cuenin (bcuenin) and Deidre Garriott (deidreg) by 5 PM ET on Sept. 6. We will email decisions by 5 PM on Sept. 13. In the proposal, please offer the title of your talk, an abstract of no more than 100-words for us to include in the program, and the proposal of the keynote address.
