The Department of Writing Studies at the University of Miami is just a few years old, but we are growing rapidly. The department is the home for First-year Writing, the University Writing Center, Writing Enriched Curriculum, and a Minor in Professional Writing. We are also developing an undergraduate major in Professional and Technical Writing. The individuals we hire from these searches are also expected to teach in the College of Arts and Sciences’ exciting new co-major in Innovation and Society that was just launched this fall. Innovation and Society infuses design thinking and data science as core competencies within a liberal arts framework that centers the needs of humans facing significant global challenges. The co-major emphasizes experiential learning, critical making, and equitable and inclusive design practices in pursuit of solving problems with/in community.
