Folks,
Reminder to add your doctoral program’s profile to the DCRC’s survey if you haven’t already. Here’s the relevant info:
We’re asking a representative from each RC doctoral program to complete our survey by September 30, 2024: https://forms.gle/dbECxZQbVFpu1ct97. Results will be accessible on the DCRC website as spreadsheet that faculty and prospective graduate students can peruse and share. By adding your program to the profile list, you will create more visibility for your program.
Thanks for your help!
Laura
P.S. See below for more info about the DCRC and register to attend our fall meeting!
Dear Colleagues,
I’m writing as chair of the Doctoral Consortium of Rhetoric and Composition (DCRC), a standing group of CCCC. The Consortium is a resource and support for graduate faculty (and by extension graduate students) in the field. Since the onset of the pandemic, we have hosted two remote meetings each academic year focused on issues of importance to doctoral education. In addition, the Consortium maintains a (low activity) listserv and a list of current graduate programs on its website, a terrific resource for prospective students as well as faculty interested in sharing information about their programs and learning about others. If you are a faculty member in a PhD in rhetoric and composition, please consider joining the DCRC by completing a program profile and/or subscribing to the listserv (instructions below). Ways you can be involved in the DCRC:
PROGRAM PROFILES
Information about existing PhD programs in the field was last updated in 2018. A lot has changed since then, which is why I’m reaching out to ask for your help updating our list. We’re asking a representative from each RC graduate program to complete our survey, whether your program is or isn’t already profiled. Please complete the survey by September 30, 2024: https://forms.gle/dbECxZQbVFpu1ct97; results will be accessible on the DCRC website as spreadsheet that faculty and prospective graduate students can peruse and share. By adding your program to the profile list, you will create more visibility for your program. In addition, adding your program profile makes you a member of the DCRC; as such, you’re welcome participate on subcommittees and nominate yourself (or others) to serve on the board as openings emerge.
AT-LARGE MEMBER OPEN SEAT
We have a current opening for an at-large member who will attend (occasional) remote meetings and contribute to initiatives as needed. At-large members serve a two-year term, beginning upon election and ending after the 2026 CCCC. If you are a member (or a soon-to-be one) and would like to nominate yourself or someone else, please send me an email at laura.micciche by September 16, 2024, after which ballots will be sent to Doctoral Consortium members for voting.
FALL MEETING: 10/22 at 6pm (EST)
Finally, please mark your calendar and join us for the DCRC’s open fall meeting on October 22, 2024, 6:00pm – 7:15pm (EST). All are welcome! We will introduce the board, get an update on the 2024 job market from Jim Ridolfo (who maintains Rhet Map), and hear from our special guest, Professor Benjamin Miller (University of Pittsburgh), author of Distant Readings of Disciplinarity: Knowing and Doing in Composition/Rhetoric Dissertations (Utah State UP, 2022). Professor Miller will present a brief summary of research trends between 2001 and 2015 (the period the book covers) and suggest ideas for how we can uncover what’s happened since. We’ll have plenty of time for robust conversation. To join us, please register at the following link: https://ucincinnati.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZAsduyrrT8rGtw5e_bPTX7SiStn82unpHe_.
So, to recap the important points of this long message (apologies!):
