Job: Instructional Faculty Opening — JMU Needs a “Digital Literacies Coordinator”

Good afternoon, colleagues,

I am writing to inform you of a job opening at James Madison University’s University Writing Center.

Our center is structured such that a Learning Centers Associate Director (in this case me) oversees our faculty coordinators, 10-month instructional faculty members who co-administer our center and focus their work on a specific subject area. For this opening, we are looking to hire a coordinator specializing in multimodal composition and writing technologies.

We are a small and collaborative team, and the job offers a satisfying variety of work tasks. In this position, you will be our resident expert in multimedia composition, teach one course a semester in JMU’s composition program, consult with clients in appointment-based writing sessions, develop resources and trainings related to composition technology for student and faculty audiences, and contribute to our assessment initiatives.

You need not be a tech or assessment guru to apply, so long as you have some such proficiencies and are willing to continue to grow them in the role. This can be an excellent position for a recent master’s graduate and, as a Mexican American writing center administrator myself, I am particularly interested in receiving applications from members of underrepresented groups.

We will be reviewing applications in late November and the start date will be in late January or early February toward the beginning of our spring semester.

For more information and/or to apply, check out our job posting here: https://jobs.jmu.edu/jobs/digital-literacies-coordinator-harrisonburg-virginia-united-states

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me. If this sounds like a good fit, I do hope to hear from you.

Kind regards,
Rodolfo "Rudy" Barrett (He/Him)
Associate Director of the Learning Centers – University Writing Center
Lecturer, School of Writing, Rhetoric and Technical Communication
