Come CCC(s) What’s in Store
Happy spring from CCC!
As part of our editorship, we’re planning to send you biannual updates and announcements about what’s going on at the journal. This first update comes on the heels of an excellent CCCC 2025 in Baltimore and with our thanks to all of the folks who helped make that possible.
Updates
Two New Issues, and Two New Genres
Since the beginning of 2025, subscribers have received two new issues of CCC — Malea Powell’s final issue (December) and our first (February). The former issue includes a Braddock Award Honorable Mention article (José Luis Cano, Jr.’s “Composition Studies at the US-Mexico Border.” The award went to Hannah Franz, Michelle Petty, Angela Rowell, Marie Tano, Sierra J. Johnson, and Anne Charity Hudley’s “Black Linguistic Justice from Theory to Practice” from the June 2024 issue).
The latter issue marks the return of review essays (with the first by Keith Gilyard on rhetorics of change) and showcases one of two new genres in the pages of CCC, the Research Brief (with the first on transnational feminist rhetorics by Chen Chen). The other new genre, The Profile, will appear in the June 2025 issue. After that, the Research Brief and The Profile will appear in alternating issues.
The first two instantiations of each new genre are by invitation and will be published in 2025; beginning in summer 2025, we will accept inquiries for both new genres for publication in 2026 and beyond. To submit an inquiry for either of these genres, please email us at ccceditorialteam.
Guidelines and Timelines
In the near future, we plan to share revised submission guidelines for CCC in an update and on the NCTE website. These guidelines will clarify what potential authors should consider when they submit any of the genres that appear in CCC. Relatedly, we have been working toward reducing the turnaround time for reviews of article submissions. (In the past 6 months, we have averaged 42.4 days from submission to decision.) We thank our reviewers for their help in making this happen! Ready to submit? Click here.
Review for Us
We strongly believe in the peer-review process and count on our reviewers to be area-specific experts capable of helping us consider, assess, and decide on submissions. We’re currently building our reviewer pool to ensure authors receive the most fitting and productive feedback possible. If you’re interested in reviewing for CCC, please let us know here.
Announcements
Special issues are back! We are planning on one special issue per year; the first will appear in September 2025 and will focus on text-generation technologies, writing, and the composition classroom. Later this summer, we will share the CFP for the September 2026 special issue–focused on political rhetoric and writing–and share information for submitting a proposal.
Until then, keep your eyes peeled for the upcoming June and September issues.
