Dear Colleagues,
We invite you to participate in "FYC Instructors’ Perceptions and Implementation of AI-Ethical Policies in Writing Classrooms." This study examines how first-year composition instructors construct AI policies in their syllabi and explores instructors’ perspectives on how their policy implementation approaches foster or hinder students’ critical awareness of AI-ethical usage. The objective of this study is to explore how First-Year Composition (FYC) instructors navigate the ethical considerations associated with students’ use of generative AI tools.
Please note, this is the second attempt to recruit enough participants (We thank those who responded to the first call).
Participation requirements include having taught at least one First-Year Composition (FYC) course within the past three years, having an explicit AI policy stated in the FYC syllabus, and being willing to share the AI policy, the FYC syllabus, and the institution’s generative AI policy, if available.

Compensation (if completed by June 15).
– The first 50 participants who complete the survey and upload/send their course syllabus will receive $15 Amazon gift card. Those who agree to conduct a 60-minute interview will receive $25 amazon gift card. Those who will be interviewed will be excluded from the $15 survey completion incentive.
At the end of the survey, you will be asked to fill out your information to receive your Amazon gift card.
All data will be kept confidential. Interview participants will be assigned pseudonyms, and no identifying information will be used in publications. Furthermore, this project has been approved by the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Institutional Review Board for the protection of human subjects (phone 724.357.7730).
