I am excited to announce that we are seeking to hire an Assistant Director at the Center for Academic and Professional Communication (CAPC) at Rice University. This is a full-time, 12-month staff position. Please see below for a brief description of the position.

Position summary:

The Assistant Director at the Center for Academic and Professional Communication (CAPC) coordinates and manages the CAPC consulting program, including recruiting, training, and supervising student communication consultants. As a core component of CAPC’s communication programming, the consulting program supports the Rice community across written, oral, and visual modalities.

In addition to overseeing the consulting program, the Assistant Director, under the guidance of the Director and Associate Director, contributes as needed to workshops and course-based programming for undergraduate and graduate students, as well as other CAPC initiatives, including collaborations with faculty and staff partners.

This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position.

Education required: Master’s degree

Education preferred: PhD

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience recruiting, training, and supervising peer consultants or student workers, with the ability to mentor consultants and support their development as responsive, student-centered communicators
  • Demonstrated experience teaching or facilitating interactive workshops that respond to participant needs
  • Ability to facilitate discussions and adapt in real time to participant input and changing contexts
  • Ability to support communication across modalities, including writing, oral presentations, and visual communication
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, particularly in managing a dynamic, student-facing program
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff
  • Ability to manage day-to-day program operations and ensure consistency and quality across services
  • Ability to incorporate feedback and adjust approaches across different audiences and contexts
