Happy mid-May!
The Writing Center’s professional staff at the University of Missouri are ecstatic to share that we’re hiring for a tutoring coordinator position. We’re filling this role as part of a restructuring plan for our newly created Office of Academic Support, which will house both the Writing Center and Learning Center at Mizzou.
This position will report to our current Assistant Director, Dr. Bailey Boyd, and will provide daily on-site support to our undergraduate tutors as well as event-based support for our graduate writing support programs.
Lots of detail below, as well as in the link, but generally: Bailey and I would love to meet talented, empathetic, flexible, writing-centered folks who want to work and live in Columbia, Missouri. As you’ll see in the link, our preferred candidates will have spent time in writing centers, ideally at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The position is technically open until the middle of June, but we hope to start interviewing as soon as we have qualified candidates.
Please feel free to forward this to folks who might be interested! You can also have them reach out to us via the email in the signature with questions!
And here’s hoping that the link below brings you directly to Job # 59658 : Senior Student Service Coordinator – Writing Center Tutoring Coordinator

The University of Missouri Writing Center, a unit of the Office of Academic Support under the Vice Provost of Undergraduate Studies is a free tutoring service that supports any writer at MU, for any writing task, at any time in their process. We provide in-person and video-based appointments during Fall, Spring, and Summer academic semesters, and the Online Writery remains open & active 24/7/365 for asynchronous writing support. In addition to undergraduate supports across all courses, the continuously growing Graduate Writing Support program offers a full suite of year-round writing events aimed at post-baccalaureate students in addition to individual writing support options.
The professional staff at the Writing Center manage a group of 60-80 tutoring staff over varying levels, who directly serve about 15% of student enrollment, averaging 12,000+ student contacts per academic year. Around 30% of those annual contacts come from the Graduate Writing Support program. Finally, the Center’s Graduate Administrative Fellows (GRAdmin) Program includes between four and six year-long graduate student assistants, who provide both tutoring and administrative support. That program also provides administrative training and professional development for the graduate student cohort.
The Writing Center celebrates our 50th anniversary in 2026 and recently celebrated the Online Writery’s 30th anniversary in 2024. We’re looking forward to the next 50 years of supporting students wherever they are.
