Dear Colleagues,
The MENA Writing Studies Journal is proud to announce its second volume. We have two full length articles, a book review, and a programmatic interview in this volume. Volumes can be found here. Along with our new logo and branding, thanks to AUB FAS grant funding, we hope to have a website facelift over the summer.
We have also attached our Special Issue call for proposals: “When Mars Attacks: Writing in Times of War” due June 30th.
We are honored to be able to compile a second volume and have ongoing interest in the region’s writing studies scholarship. For a quick snippet of the content:
Our editors’ introduction details our exciting inaugural year and the anguish of producing in the last few months.
Saurabh Anand and his co-authors (Erin Zimmerman, Marwa Mehio, Maya Akiki, and Jennifer Nish) discuss languaging and meaning-making in Writing Centers outside of the United States.
Soha Youssef provides insights into the metacognitive development of two Saudi writers at her university.
Halle Neiderman provides a book for Lisa Arnold’s An Imagined America: Language, Literacy, Identity, and Coloniality at Syrian Protestant College, 1866–1920.
Finally, Marwa Mehio interviewed Aieshah Arif and Sweta Kumari regarding the exigency and output of their podcast on World Englishes produced at NYU Abu Dhabi.
We hope you enjoy the issue, and be on the look out for additional issues partnering with the Middle East North Africa Writing Centers Alliance (MENAWCA) and the International Effective Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (ETLHE) conferences.
Please reach out if you have ideas for contribution or questions on our processes. We’d love to hear from you.
Best,
MENA Writing Studies Journal editors
