Dear colleagues,
I invite you to participate in Well-being and Writing Program Labor (IRB# 2026-80), a research study examining well-being, engagement, and labor in writing studies.
The study explores how workplace experiences, professional engagement, and administrative support relate to well-being and energy management among writing studies professionals. The findings will contribute to a better understanding of labor conditions in writing studies and inform future research in conversations about creating healthier, more sustainable work environments.
Research on the work of writing studies professionals has expanded considerably, yet we know relatively little about how workplace experiences shaped long-term well-being across faculty, graduate instructors, staff, and administrators. By participating, you will contribute to a broader understanding of writing program labor and help build an empirical foundation for future scholarship and institutional decision-making.
You are eligible to participate if you are 18 years of age or older and:
- teach writing courses in higher education (faculty or graduate instructor), and/or
- administer or support a college or university writing program.
The anonymous online survey takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. Participation is entirely voluntary, and you may skip any question or discontinue participation at any time.
Although there is no monetary compensation, participants may request a summary of the aggregated study findings upon completion of the project.

Whether your work currently feels highly rewarding, especially challenging, or somewhere in between, your perspective is important. A broad range of experiences is essential to developing a more complete understanding of labor, well-being, and sustainability in writing studies.
Please feel free to share this invitation with eligible colleagues.

Thank you for considering this invitation and for supporting research on writing program labor.
