2027 Conference on Higher Education Pedagogy
The call for proposals is now open for the 19th annual Conference on Higher Education Pedagogy.
CHEP will take place on February 3-5, 2027 at The Inn at Virginia Tech and Skelton Conference Center in Blacksburg, Virginia.
The conference showcases the best pedagogical practice and research in higher education today. Sessions address disciplinary and interdisciplinary instructional strategies, outcomes, and research. Ultimately, the conference is an opportunity to demonstrate effective instructional practice and disseminate the latest research aimed at improving the quality of higher education.
We invite educators, researchers, instructional designers, academic leaders, and other higher education professionals to share innovative practices, research, and ideas that advance teaching and learning in higher education.
The call for proposals is open and will close on September 14 at 11:59 p.m. The conference offers multiple presentation formats to showcase a variety of scholarly and practical work:
Practice Sessions (45 minutes)
Practice sessions focus on sharing, modeling, and discussing effective teaching and learning practices while encouraging active interaction among participants. Proposals should move beyond simply describing how a practice is implemented to explain why it is effective. Submissions should ground the practice in relevant literature, describe how it will be demonstrated during the session, and explain how presenters will engage participants.
Research Sessions (20 minutes)
Research sessions highlight empirical studies related to teaching and learning in higher education. Presentations should describe the study’s theoretical foundation, methodology, data analysis, results, and conclusions. Two research presentations will be scheduled within each presentation block, and presenters should plan accordingly to remain within the allotted time.
Roundtable Discussions (45 minutes)
Roundtable discussions provide an opportunity for attendees to engage in meaningful conversations around a shared pedagogical topic, idea, or area of research. This interactive format is designed to foster networking, collaboration, and the exchange of ideas. Proposals should identify the central topic for discussion, explain its significance to higher education teaching and learning, and describe both what presenters hope to contribute and what they hope to gain from the conversation. Roundtables are especially well suited for works in progress, emerging Scholarship of Teaching and Learning projects, early findings, or instructional innovations that would benefit from collegial feedback.
Poster Session
Poster sessions provide an informal setting for discussing scholarly research and evidence-based teaching practices with conference attendees. The poster session will be held during the conference reception on Thursday, the first day of the conference. Poster proposals should follow the submission requirements for either research- or practice-focused work, as appropriate.
