This special issue on risk, failure, and the teaching of writing includes the following features:
· An editors’ introduction on risk/failure and the WPA Outcomes Statement 4.0 by Justin Mando and Alexis Teagarden
· Six articles addressing topics including faculty perceptions of risk-taking, a heuristic for disrupting vernaculars of risk and failure, a pedagogy of failure, community writing and failure, failure in first-year composition, and a 360-degree framework for faculty failure and intellectual risk.
· Three articles focusing on graduate students including supporting graduate writers through vulnerability, a justice-centered framework for graduate writing, and risk, precarity, and safety within the technical and professional communication academic job market.
· Two program profiles describing normalizing failure in the Writing Arts Department at Rowan University and the phenomenology of risk in community-based learning at a Midwestern comprehensive university.
