Dear Colleague~~
Thank you for signing the “Supporting a New Home for the Writing Studies Community” statement, joining over 1100 of our colleagues, and allowing us to create a press release. Much has happened since the July announcement that NCTE had de-charted CCCC.
As sponsors of that statement, we write today with a twofold purpose: (1) to thank you for your support and (2) to invite you to complete a survey intended to gauge your continuing interest in building a new professional organization for rhetoric and composition teachers and scholars, one separate from anything NCTE proposes. Several efforts toward this future are already in process, including regional “ideation” sessions taking place across the US and being collected for analysis and action; multiple activities keyed to archiving CCCC materials; and a crowdsourcing project oriented to legal redress. This survey complements these efforts: as indicated above, and more specifically, it has three purposes: to gauge the continuing interest of colleagues like you in creating a future independent home for members of the field; to identify more specifically how you envision such a writing studies home; and to learn how you might want to contribute to its formation.
We hope that you will complete this survey, and please invite your friends and colleagues to sign the statement if they have not already done so. Our plan is also to return to you periodically with other surveys as events develop.
