You are invited to participate in Comics in Classrooms and Academic Libraries (IRB: 00007380), a research study about the use of comics in college classrooms and libraries. This study is being conducted by researchers in the University Libraries at the University at Albany.
We are interested in your experiences with comics of all types, including graphic novels, manga, comic strips, comic books, and other forms of sequential art. The purpose of the study is to determine how instructors are using (or not using) comics for teaching and learning purposes and how academic libraries are supporting or partnering with them.
This study includes two surveys: one for academic library employees and one for teaching faculty. Each survey takes approximately 15 minutes to complete.
Library Worker Survey
Academic library employees who are 18 years or older and currently work directly with comics in their role (e.g., collection development, outreach, programming) are invited to participate in the Library Worker Survey.
Faculty Survey
Instructors who are 18 years or older and currently use comics in their college or university courses, or would like to in the future, are invited to participate in the Faculty Survey.
The final question on each survey asks whether you are willing to participate in a follow-up interview about your experiences teaching with comics or supporting teaching with comics. If you indicate interest in a follow-up interview, you will be asked to provide an email address that we will use to contact you to schedule a one-hour Zoom interview.
Participation in this study is voluntary. You may choose not to participate or to stop participating in this study at any time.
