Dear Colleagues,
The English Department at Utah State University Eastern is now accepting applications for a teaching-intensive, tenure-track Assistant Professor of English in Professional and Community-Engaged Writing, to begin August 2027. This fully-benefitted position carries a 3-3 undergraduate teaching load, primarily in professional writing, general education, and writing studies; the position also carries a secondary research load. The successful candidate will collaborate with campus colleagues and community partners in the region to create meaningful community engagement opportunities for students.
To encourage a wide range of applicants, the initial application requires only a CV, cover letter, and names and email addresses of three references. For guaranteed consideration, applications should be submitted by December 14th, 2026. The full job description, as well as information about our department and university, can be found at https://careers-usu.icims.com/jobs/10882/assistant-professor-of-professional-and-community-engaged-writing/job
As many of you know, first-year composition at USU has experienced some changes these past few years, and the English Department has responded by reframing these changes as an opportunity for interdisciplinary collaboration—an approach that has been well-received at USU. We have recently created a new Writing Studies Curricular Area, an AI & Writing Certificate, and an interdisciplinary Professional Writing and Communication Certificate. We have been also developing a number of interdisciplinary partnerships, including with Criminal Justice, Nursing, and Social Work, which are growing areas of student interest at USU Eastern.
We’re thrilled to be expanding the Writing Studies program to our USU Eastern campus in Price, Utah (approximately 120 miles from downtown Salt Lake City and 2-3 hours from several beautiful National Parks and Monuments), and we invite interested and qualified candidates to apply!
I am co-chairing the committee, so please don’t hesitate to reach out to me at beth.buyserie with any questions.
Thanks,
Beth
