Dear colleagues,
On behalf of the WPA-GO Leadership Council, welcome to the 2025-2026 academic year! I’m writing to share a little sentimental note as the incoming chair and let you know about some upcoming opportunities to get (or stay) involved with WPA-GO!
Looking toward what I know will be a challenging year, I headed back to campus this week, shared spaces with my colleagues again in orientations and during office hours, and was reminded that we very much do this work together. Every day I am disturbed by global violence and climate disaster, and yet my radical optimism grows in part because of the inspired commitment of my friends in writing studies to justice, to their students, and to learning to language together. I’m so grateful for the ways WPA-GO has connected me with some of those friends, collaborators, and mentors (maybe you are one of them, or maybe our relationship is still waiting for us in the future). In my time as chair, I hope to continue supporting WPA-GO in creating spaces for building those spirit-sustaining relationships. Thank you for your support for graduate students in WPA and I hope to see you soon!

Open House
Graduate students are invited to join us for our second annual Open House event on Wednesday, September 17th at 5 pm CT! Leadership members of WPA-GO will introduce the organization and ways to participate and then open a dialogue about graduate student conditions generally, and conditions for grads within writing studies specifically.

Each year WPA-GO committees collaborate on a range of events, workshops, and resources for graduate students and others interested in writing program administration. We have five committees (Accessibility, Digital Presence, Diversity, Mentoring, and Outreach) with unique aims but shared goals of increasing access to professionalization in WPA.
