Hi, all,
We’re excited to announce that the DIY Methods conference is back for another year! Pitches are due by April 20th, 2026. Please don’t hesitate to email us (annepasek and trentwintermeier) if you have any questions.
DIY Methods is an unconventional conference about unconventional approaches to research methods in the social sciences and humanities. It takes place through the mail, via print zines made by researchers around the world, exploring new ways to conduct and communicate their work. It is also an attempt to experiment with slower, lower-carbon forms of research-exchange. Digital copies of all the conference zines are archived in an online proceedings of the conference. 2026 will be its 4th year of operations. This year’s conference will be organized in 3 different streams, based on print modality: conventional, risograph, and self-published/experimental. Participation is free.
We welcome pitches for zines researchers have already made, or would like to make, along these themes. Pitches should describe both the form and content of the zine, and how these considerations relate to one another and the conference’s focus on unconventional research methods. The deadline for pitches is April 20th 2026. Print zines will be mailed out in August, and the digital proceedings will be published in September.
More information can be found at https://diymethods.net/ (where you can also sign up to be notified when the digital proceedings are out).
All the best,
Trent Wintermeier (he/him)
