Volunteer: TETYC Opportunities

Dear colleagues,

Teaching English in the Two-Year College (TETYC), the journal of the Two-Year College English Association (TYCA), publishes articles across the range of English studies related to teaching at two-year colleges and access-oriented institutions.

We are honored to extend the work of TETYC’s most recent editor, Darin Jensen, whose term is ending in May, and will continue to amplify student and teacher-scholar voices in discussions about literacy, composition and rhetoric, developmental education, technical and professional communication, community and advocacy writing, literature, creative writing, language, dual and concurrent enrollment, and assessment, as well as professional issues.

As Holly Hassel suggested in her first issue as editor, TETYC can be both “a mirror—to reflect the best of current work and the field as it is” and “a lamp—to move our field forward, lighting the way to new directions, new emphases, and responding to new and emerging needs” (5). To be both a mirror and a lamp, TETYC relies upon your contributions.

Currently, we invite you to contribute in the following ways:

Manuscript Reviewers

Manuscript reviewers serve the important function of sharing their expertise and knowledge of English studies at two-year colleges and access-oriented institutions, which consequently shapes the journal’s scope and focus.

To see the recently updated reviewer guidelines, please visit the TETYC “Reviewer Guidelines” page.

To create or update your reviewer profile, please visit TETYC’s Editorial Manager site: editors.tetyc.

Editorial Assistants

Editorial assistants support authors and editors throughout the manuscript preparation process. Duties may include line editing, fact-checking, supporting workflow, and promoting the journal within your networks.

This is an excellent role for someone new to the field or to scholarly publishing, as it can help you gain publishing experience and disciplinary knowledge. In our opinion, it’s also a rewarding role for established teacher-scholars: low service hours, high satisfaction.

The term for Editorial Assistants is one year (renewable) from September through August.

To apply, please send an email indicating your interest and any relevant experience, along with an updated CV, to the incoming editors at editors.tetyc by May 31, 2026.

Manuscript Submissions

As ever, TETYC seeks to publish your writing. We showcase manuscripts that are in conversation with the rich history of English studies at two-year colleges and access-oriented institutions and welcome discussions about literacy, composition and rhetoric, developmental education, technical and professional communication, community and advocacy writing, literature, creative writing, language, dual and concurrent enrollment, and assessment, as well as professional issues.

For submission guidelines, please visit the TETYC “Write for Us” page (to be updated soon).

We look forward to collaborating with you.

Best,

Jessica Nastal and Cheryl Hogue Smith
