Redesigning Doctoral Futures in Rhetoric and Composition
The Consortium of Doctoral Programs in Rhetoric and Composition invites proposals for our sponsored roundtable at CCCC 2027 in Milwaukee, WI. Our focus will be redesigning doctoral education in response to current conditions, with attention to the futures we want to make possible as a field.
Doctoral programs are navigating a range of shifting conditions: changing labor structures, evolving institutional priorities, new technologies, and diverse student needs. This roundtable asks how programs are responding to these conditions and how those responses are shaping the future of doctoral education. What does it look like to redesign aspects of a program in ways that are both practical and forward-looking?
We aim to bring together short contributions that take up specific areas of doctoral education. For the panel, we invite proposals that address any of the following topics, and welcome others not listed here:
- Curriculum design and revision
- Graduate teaching and mentoring practices
- Placement and professionalization
- Labor conditions and program structure
- Technology and graduate education
- Interdisciplinary work
- Student support and access
- Program development and identity
We seek proposals from faculty members at any career stage who are involved in doctoral education in rhetoric and composition. We also invite statements of interest from current graduate students who would like to serve as panel respondents.
To submit, please send the following to Brad Lucas (b.e.lucas2) by Friday, May 15 (we’ll return decisions by May 22):
- Faculty proposers: Brief bio & 200-word description of your intended contribution
- Graduate student respondents: Brief bio & 100-word statement of interest in panel participation
Please note that being part of a sponsored panel does not limit participation on other panels as a speaker, chair, or respondent. Sponsored panels are guaranteed to be included on the program.
We look forward to reading your proposals!
