TYCA Seminar Fall 2026 to Spring 2027:
Designing Online Literacy Courses at Access-Oriented Institutions
Overview
This TYCA seminar is intended for instructors and program administrators at community colleges and other access-oriented institutions. Activities will focus on helping participants design online or hybrid courses, including program-level development shells and their own courses. Discussions will focus on developing inclusive courses to support a broad range of learners, especially students who don’t meet admissions standards at more selective institutions. Participants will engage in discussions with other members of the cohort through Zoom while working on an individual course design project aligned with their professional goals.
Prerequisite: Experience teaching asynchronous online, synchronous online, or hybrid English courses at a community college or other access-oriented institution. One year of experience recommended.
NOTE: This seminar is sponsored by the TYCA Program Coordination Network, and it focuses on course design. Activities are designed for TYCA members with online teaching experience. A more introductory seminar on online teaching at community colleges will be available for Fall 2027.

To apply for the seminar, please complete this short registration form. Space is limited to 12 applicants. Graduate students who are interested in teaching at access-oriented institutions are invited to apply in addition to instructors at community colleges and open-admissions four-year institutions.
