Event: Writing Center workshop on navigating burnout

Hello!

The Writing Institute at The University of Pittsburgh is hosting a virtual event with Dr. Genie Giaimo on Oct 24th from 2-3:30pm EST on how to navigate burnout and taking on emotional labor while working as a writing consultant. The poster is attached and further information, including registration link is available below.

Replacing Institutional Wellness with Community Care to Address Writing Center Employee Burnout, "Workism" And Emotional Labor

This workshop will start with an overview of Unwell Writing Centers (Giaimo, 2023) and the neoliberal wellness industry’s impact on higher education. From there, we will engage in activities about emotional labor, burnout, "workism" and ways to create community care spaces in writing centers. Ultimately, while this workshop will provide resources and support for those who attend, it will also serve as a forum for audience members to explore their personal relationships to their labor and any recent challenges that are arising in their writing center work.
